A new face of Pune's politics

Today the word “Politics” is synonymous with Corruption and Black Money. It’s a field filled with Lust for Power. Pune is also facing the same problem, the politics has degraded here. Every party has its own agenda and they are ultimately destroying pune’s cultural environment. There was a time when pune was known as cultural capital of Maharashtra. It is education hub also (though now it has ruined!!!!!). But due to some nuisance and idiotic politicians, students have stopped coming here. Pune is loosing its dignity.

But a new face has emerged in pune’s politics, it can create new phase into politics, That is Mr. Arun Bhatia.
The situation in Indian politics is, where, a Politician is a Promise-Breaker; he never cares for the poor and underprivileged. He indulges in vote-bank politics, which is not the right way of dealing with people. He even cheats his own party by jumping to other parties which offer him nice seats with loads of money. He will do anything to get a party ticket and is prepared to avenge for his not getting any party ticket in any possible manner. The coalition politics sums up the real color of the today’s true politician. Wherein parties which join hands together to form the government, go against themselves fighting for some petty matters and then threaten the survival of the government as a whole. Such a person is not at all a politician. He is just an opportunist, a blackmailer. He is just a man who loves money and power. He cannot be a true representative of people at all.

Whenever Bhatia detected corruption and initiated action against the culprits protected by the establishment, he was transferred. In subsequent postings when he raised the old issues and asked for action against offenders, he was told that this was no longer his concern. Transfer is an instrument not only of harassment but also of silencing protest within the system. Bhatia's protests and findings remained suppressed and law breakers walked away unpunished, unassailable and stronger than before.
And so in 26 years of service (excluding the training period and service in the United Nations), Bhatia was removed from his post (transferred) 26 times.

According to Bhatia, as many as 68 per cent families had taken loans from moneylenders for food. "This episode of malnutrition leads on to governance issues. How can they serve a notice on an officer for expressing an opinion based on a scientific survey? It is an indication of how feudal, autocratic and unprofessional the situation is; of how dissent is treated. It is a serious governance issue and should be taken up."
This civil servant should know. In 1982, he had unearthed massive corruption in the Employment Guarantee Scheme in Dhulia district. As Collector of Bombay, he exposed land scandals involving senior IAS officers. More recently, when Bhatia was Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation, he swung the baton against illegal encroachments and construction by builders and politicians. Bhatia has now initiated a citizens' campaign against corruption. "The test of a good bureaucrat," he says, "is what he does to reform the system." :-arun bhatiaelect

May he can change pune’s face. Vote for him and save pune politics from being ashamed.

IPL in danger

The Centre on Friday rejected the revised schedule of the mega event (Indian Premier League, IPL) , saying it was not feasible to hold the matches as all states, except Tamil Nadu, have either refused to provide security on match days or made their nod conditional on large numbers of central forces being made available to them, to which the Centre has said no. Although the home ministry kept hopes alive by advising the organizers to work out a fresh schedule, and the IPL organising committee taking up the task, it now seems rather difficult to rejig the dates so as to take care of each and every state’s security concerns at this late stage. A communication was sent to the IPL after Union home minister P Chidambaram and home secretary Madhukar Gupta took stock of the states’ response to the revised schedule on Friday. State officials remained in touch with the ministry all day. IPL commissioner Lalit Modi refused to comment on the sudden development. The IPL organizing committee was locked in a late night meeting, apparently to work round-theclock on a re-revised schedule.

I am hopeful for this to happen, ALL THE BEST TO THE ORGANIZERS. World is waiting for the event.

Networking: A new World

Are you spending hours and hours on Facebook, orkut? If so, you are not alone. Networking and blogging sites account for almost 10% of time spent on the internet — more than on email. According to a study released by Nielsen Online. “While two-thirds of the global online population already accesses member community sites, their vigorous adoption and the migration of time show no signs of slowing,” said John Burbank, the CEO of Nielsen Online. One in every 11 minutes spent online globally is on networking sites. Between December 2007 and December 2008, the time spent on the sites climbed 63% to 45 billion minutes. The figure was even higher for the world’s most popular networking site, Facebook, where members spent 20.5 billion minutes, up 566% from 3.1% the previous year, according to the study. More people are also visiting networking sites. In the past year, the reach of online networking sites grew more than 5%. Brazilians are the most avid fans of networking sites, according to the report. Eighty per cent of online Indian visit networking sites. They also spend the largest portion of their time online — 23% — on networking sites. Although Facebook is the most popular networking site globally, with 108.3 million unique visitors, preferences differ by nationality. Facebook is the top site in Australia, Spain, Switzerland, France, the United Kingdom and Italy. But Americans favour MySpace, in Japan, local site Mixi reigns, and in Brazil, Google’s networking site, Orkut, is number one.

Orkut has overshadowed face book at least in India.
Many social networking sites were originally geared toward younger audiences, but the sites are no longer just for kids, the report showed. The biggest growth in Facebook membership comes from the 35-49 year old set. Facebook has added twice as many 50-64 year old visitors as it has visitors under 18. REUTERS
